Professional Training at SFB

(I)ACCA

With a determination to produce the best national and international business managers for today and tomorrow, SFB embarked on an ambitious programme of training internationally qualified and recognized accountants, auditors and financial experts.

To achieve this, SFB has been affiliated to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), through the University and Registration Scheme (UCRS). So far, SFB is the leading ACCA Tuition Provider in Rwanda, and is looking forward to becoming its Approved Learning Partner.

What is ACCA?

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants- ACCA - is the largest and fastest- growing global professional accountancy body. Through its flexible ways of training students, ACCA awards internationally recognized Certificates to its affiliates and members and, therefore, the possibility to work anywhere on the globe.

Its reputation and influence in both Finance and Accountancy are respected worldwide by Multinational Corporations, Governments, UN Bodies, Local Firms and Individual Employers.

SFB has trained (and continues to train) accountants, auditors and financial personnel from all sectors of the Rwandan economy. Currently, about 152 learners are pursuing the ACCA programme at Mburabuturo Campus.

Efforts are being made to train an additional 315 learners, expected to be drawn from the Rwandan public sector, courtesy of a World Bank grant to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.

A considerable number of students are already pursuing the Professional Level (final stage) of ACCA Programme.So far the following former SFB ACCA Students –now ACCA Affiliates and/or Members- have completed the Program.

Note: An applicant’s previous qualifications may entitle the candidate to exemptions from certain ACCA Examinations, following ACCA exemption policies.

(II) CAT (CERTIFIED ACCOUNTANT TECHNICIAN)

SFB is looking forward to launching the CAT programme, for those who may not meet the direct admission requirements to the ACCA programme. After successful completion of CAT, a student is allowed to go straight to the Skills Module (2nd level) of the ACCA programme.

The CAT syllabus is aimed at developing a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge, skills and techniques required by modern professional accountants.

(III) A DEGREE FROM OXFORD BROOKES UNIVERSITY

Through the ACCA partnership with Oxford Brookes University, ACCA students can gain a BSc Honors Degree in Applied Accounting either while they complete their ACCA studies or after gaining their ACCA qualification. If you register with ACCA as a student you will be automatically registered for Oxford Brookes University Degree.

How does it work?

If you register with ACCA as a student you will be automatically registered for the Oxford Brookes University Degree. As soon as you have completed the Fundamentals Level, the Online Professional Ethics you may submit a Research and Analysis Project to Oxford Brookes University, which will be assessed by the University Business School staff. If you are successful you will be awarded the Degree of Bsc (Hons) in Applied Accounting.

How do I get the Degree?

If you are eligible and opted in, and have passed the Fundamentals Level of ACCA Examinations, you may submit a Research and Analysis Project to Oxford Brookes University that is then marked by the University. If you pass the Project then the Degree is awarded.

How do I graduate?

Following assessments of projects, an Examination Board is held in Oxford. Results letters are then sent out to all students. Certificates will be sent out to students who have passed as soon as possible after the results letters.

Will I be able to attend a Graduation Ceremony?

All students will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony in Oxford normally in September each year. There will normally be a small charge for this ceremony.
